ADAM IS OFF TO LONDON
This week another nude oil painting – but with a difference – was purchased at my online store.
This gorgeous original oil painting of a powerful, sensual male nude is truly one of my favourites with his muscular back highlighted in the light! So I am both delighted and a little sad to say goodbye to ‘Adam’. I am usually drawn to painting the female form with her voluptuous lines and softness but on this occasion the male body and his pose really inspired me and proved too much to resist 🙂
The reason I called him ‘Adam’ is mainly because of his posture. It seems to me as though he were emerging from creation. As such light and dark are a dominant theme, with brown tones bringing in connection to the earth, life and warmth. He was painted in my studio here in the Lake District in the winter when the earth is dormant and full of enormous potential. The colours in this painting are simple and the areas of light and dark clearly laid out. It makes me feel a sense of reliability, of inner strength, of survival despite adversity.
Now to practicalities … at 36″ x 48″ x 1.5″ (91.4cm x 122cm x 3.8cm) he’s a big boy on a large, deep-edge canvas and shall be packaged him up carefully and shipped this week. He’s ready to hang so his new owner will be able to enjoy their new original painting straight away. I’m hoping to receive some photos of him in situ – I’ll keep you posted.
Though it’s not usual for me to be attracted to painting the male body, the success of ‘Adam’ may well give birth to other male nudes. Stay tuned!
